Blog

If you have recently purchased a used vehicle and you are already having some trouble, you want to get it to a mechanic right away. If you aren't sure when the vehicle was last serviced, or if it was taken care of it needed to be over time, you want to get a full inspection to see what is going on. Here are some of the things to take into consideration when you start looking at mechanic shops, and when you a service center to work on your car.

Find Approved Mechanics

There are some shops that will be ASE and AAA approved, and these are mechanical shops that those companies will have accredited and recommend. If you are worried about finding a company that is used continually with a high return and recommendation rate, this may be the best way to go. You can also ask for personal references by others who share the same model or make as your car, or that have a used vehicle and need frequent repairs.

Get the Automobile Tuned Up

You want to get the automobile tuned-up, to make sure that you are driving a vehicle that is ready for the road. The tune-up should include:

  • Replace all fluids and fill them up
  • Test the battery
  • Check ignition switches,  belts, hoses and filters

Once the automobile is tune-up you can see if there were any major problems with the fluids, switches, belts or hoses, or if you had a clogged filter causing concerns.

Look for Recalls

The mechanic can pull up all the recalls that have occurred on your vehicle, as a great start point for targeting the problems that you have. From here they can move on to the other things they suspect or to the results from a diagnostic computer hook-up evaluation.  You will want to register your car with the manufacturer so you can get alerted of future recalls.

If you have recently bought a used car and it just doesn't seem to be driving right since you got behind the wheel, get it into a mechanic to see what is going on, and if it's safe to be on the roads. You want to be sure that you aren't putting anyone at risk driving the vehicle, and that you aren't doing more damage to the automobile while you are driving.
